Unhappiness comes in different shades and forms and it all centers in the heart of man. some just lack joy. Anxiety, depression and other diseases are also factors affecting our happiness inside and outside. We are gonna be treating 7 main reason for unhappiness and how these factors can be cured and overcomed.
- Worry: This is a state of being anxious and troubled over an actual or a potential problems or happenings.It all start with a nagging thought which then grows to add some few other thoughts and afterwards a storm of thoughts cradles into the mind of man and this makes one start thinking irrationally and sometimes senselessly and it all ends up in wasting both vital mental and physical energy. A Swedish proverb once stated that,"Worry gives a small thing a big shadow". That is what worrying does one's mind, depriving one of happiness. What we most worry about are mostly are potential happenings, what the future holds and then the past. Roy T. Bennett once said that, "If you want to be happy; do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present". Now lets find out those things that we worry most about and how it can all be controlled and then stopped.
- Money and the future: Most young adult and teenagers this days have this common saying going around, "MONEY ON MY MIND". Even the talented American singer Sam Smith sang about it. but looking at it realistically we would notice how paramount money has become in this present world and how worrisome one become when he or she is broke. Debts, worrying about how to settle the current month and the the next bills or even fear about financial security in the future like when you have kids or when you retire. all these are financial stress and this is a major cause of worry and it leads to unhappiness. The best thing one can do to deal with this financial stress is; (i) Create a budget: At first, you may think that a budget is only going to add to your financial stress, but it is the best tool you have to get control of your finances and stop worrying about money. (ii) Get an emergency fund: An emergency fund is money you have set aside to cover unexpected expenses and financial emergencies. Although a car repair can be expensive and stressful, if you know you can tap into your emergency fund to cover it, a lot of the stress will go away. (iii) Get outside help: If you are really struggling with getting a handle on your budget and spending issues, do not be afraid to get outside help. You can take classes on basic money management and investing that will help you plan out a budget and do the things you need to succeed financially. (iv) Determine what you can change: Often if you are having financial issues you have an income or a spending issue or a combination of the two. If you know that you do not make enough money, decide what you can do to change the situation. It may mean that you go back to school so you qualify for a higher paying job. (v) Find positive aspect of your life each day: While this may sound like it is not really a solution to your problem, it can make a big difference in the amount of stress that you feel. You can do this by tracking your progress towards your financial goals. Looking at the positive aspects of your life each day can also help you reduce your stress.
- Relationship: In 2002, two pioneers of Positive Psychology, Ed Diener and Martin Seligman, conducted a study at the University of Illinois on the 10% of students with the highest scores recorded on a survey of personal happiness. They found that the most salient characteristics shared by students who were very happy and showed the fewest signs of depression were "their strong ties to friends and family and commitment to spending time with them." ("The New Science of Happiness," Claudia Wallis, Time Magazine, Jan. 09, 2005). Our relationship no matter how small it is, it plays a huge part in our happiness. Harvard professor and psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, when asked what the secret of happiness and health is, he said,"Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period."This what our relationship is capable os doing to our happiness and even health. So less important should be given to people who dont care about your happiness. Surround yourself with positive thinking people, people that makes you happy always, people that brings the best out of you always and people that truly loves you and then you can put that worry behind you.
